Consumer Understanding of Costs and Benefits
Related News | Policy Papers & Articles | Web ResourcesLaunch targeted public awareness campaign that can be replicated on a nationwide basis, to increase consumer understanding of health care costs, benefits and consequences, and employer health plan options and trade-offs, by using popular media and other means of communicating the message such as the workplace, community groups, and faith-based groups.
Benefit of Recommended Initiative 10
Informed consumers will at least have a better understanding of why health care costs and insurance premiums are escalating. They may also better appreciate various mechanisms in managed care that serve to limit access to high-cost specialists or specialty services (within reason). Informed consumers are more likely to understand efforts to change insurance offerings to include basic packages that do not include all mandated care and/or high deductible plans, as suggested in other Recommended Initiatives.
