Related News | Policy Papers & Articles | Web ResourcesHealthy Florida Foundation supports the initiatives furthered by Governor Bush’s Select Task Force on Health Care Professional Liability Insurance in its efforts to address the current medical malpractice crisis in the State of Florida and encourages enactment of federal legislation that implements these initiatives nationally.
Benefit of Recommended Initiative 14
In a study conducted by Emory University, it is reported that capping medical liability awards results in a 17 percent lower premium than in states without similar caps. Reforming malpractice liability issues in such a way that malpractice insurance underwriters are willing – and can afford – to do business in Florida will directly impact the willingness of doctors and other providers to practice in the state. With the return or maintenance of key providers, more services will be available at reasonable cost.
